Welfare Is A Government Program That Provides Money, Medical Care, Ess

Welfare is a government program that provides money, medical care, food, housing, and other things that people need in order to survive. People who can receive help from these welfare programs are children, elders, disabled, and others who cannot support their families on their current income. Another name for welfare is public assistance. There are many organizations that supply this public assistance. Such as Salvation Army and other groups. Public assistance benefits help many people who live below the poverty line, an income level is established for families. If your income is below this you would be eligible to receive this help. Welfare in the United States Federal and state governments in the Unites States serve the poor people through about 60 public assistance programs. Most people receive help through one of the four major programs. These programs are Medicaid, Aid to families with dependant Children, Social Security, or Supplemental Security, or the food stamps program. I will discuss the four programs individually. Medicaid provides free medical care to the poor people. Funds vary from state to state. In some situations, people who may be able to pay daily needs, but can't afford large medical bills may also be able to receive Medicaid. Some services paid for are bills such as doctor's visits and nursing home care. Most Medicaid funding comes from the federal government. The rest is supplied by the state. Each state runs their own Medicaid program. A.F.D.C. provides cash benefits to dependent children and the parents or the guardians taking care of them. Most families that qualify for A.F.D.C. have just one parent in the home. About 80 percent of these families are headed by a woman. A.F.D.C. also pays benefits to two-parent families if both parents are unemployed. Most A.F.D.C. funding comes from the federal government. The states provide the rest of the money and administer the program. The sizes of families' payment vary from state to state. Next is Social Security Income. This provides financial Aid to people in need who are at least 65 years old, blind, or disabled. The federal government finances and administers social security income programs in most states, though some states supply the federal payment and are able to run their own programs. Finally, the Food Stamp Program helps low-income households buy more and better food than they could otherwise afford. Each participating household receives a certain number of coupons called food stamps. The stamps are issued by the federal government. The number of stamps a household receives varies with the family's size, income, and expenses. Cooperating grocery stores accept the stamps like money for food purchases only. There are other programs such as energy assistance and public housing. Energy assistance, which is federally financed but administered by the states, helps people pay fuel bills. Public housing provides low cost rental apartments in government owned buildings. State and local governments fund and administer their own general assistance programs. These programs provide financial aid for needy people who do not qualify for other types of welfare. People waiting to receive assistance from other programs also may get temporary emergency aid from general assistance. Back in the early days, welfare resembled the English system. Social governments were responsible for helping the poor. But the colonies and later the states, sometimes helped the local government provide aid. The first federal welfare program, began after the Revolutionary War, they provided pensions to war veterans. During the Civil War these pensions were expanded to cover soldiers' widows and orphans. In the early 1900's, primary responsibility for providing welfare benefits shifted from local to state governments. During these years, states enacted programs to aid dependent children and the elderly. The criticisms of welfare ranges over a number of social and economic issues. Some people criticize welfare programs for not providing high enough benefits to eliminate poverty. Spending on welfare would have to increase greatly to eliminate poverty, and many people believe the cost is already too high. Many critics of the welfare system charge that providing a steady income to needy people encourages idleness. Actually, most welfare benefits go to elderly, blind, and disabled people and mothers with young children. But welfare does discourage some recipients from working harder by reducing benefits if their income increases. Many people also criticize the welfare system for being too complex and costly to administer. Each program has its own eligibility requirements and ways of calculating benefits, and these rules vary from state to state. Public officials collect detailed information about applicants to determine their eligibility for benefits. This process is time-consuming and costly. Some people cheat the system by not reporting all the income they earn. I hope this essay can change your views on welfare and how impotant it is to every community. Please take this to heart and help our community.

buy custom Social Psychology essay The article titled Storybooks Get Kids to Eat Their Veggies (Gripshover, n.d.) is selected from the SPARQ website and summarizes a research article (Gripshover Markman, 2013). The problem that the researchers are refering to is the child's obesity. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention declare that during the past thirty years the norms of child's and adolescent's weight had increased more than twice (CDC, 2015). Moreover, obesity can cause both immediate and future health problems, such as high cholesterol, diabetes, or different types of cancer. Besides, these children suffer from low self-esteem and stigmatization that accomplish social and psychological obstacles. The current paper evaluates the main goals of the research article and examines methods and methodology with the correspondence to the ethical norms. The importance of the issue deserves serious consideration, as well as possible solutions have to be seriously and broadly studied. Developmental psychologists Gripshover and Markman want to make contribution to the nation's present and future health. In the conducted experiment they are aimed to teach preschoolers to choose vegetable snacks and to argue the need to eat healthier food. The scientists designed five storybooks for the age of four and five that simply and colourfully depict the way the body uses the nutrients from food and how do they influence it's various functions. During the next step, they divided 160 children into two groups. One group was supposed to read these books in a snack time for a three months. The other group had no changes in their schedule. After the mentioned period, the research team observed what children ate during the meal time. Eventually, they found that those who were working with the nutrition books chose approximately from four to nine pieces of vegetables (Gripshover, 2013). The rest of the children did not eat extra vegetables. The results also revel that children understand the process of digestion and the influence of different kinds of food on the body better. Having the curiosity in their nature, children are likey to learn to choose better products that is based on the studied information. Understanding of the digestion process and the food's influence can help to make deliberate actions towards personal health. The purpose of further research is to assess the duration of such healthy choices during other mealtimes or at home. Moreover, this approach to the health education can contribute to other studies, for instance, behavioral approach to the nutrition. The presented research article uses such methods as the experiment, comparative method and observation. Thus, the study of the issue was conducted with the help of designed technique, namely testing on the two groups of preschoolers held in a real time. The method of comparison and observation gives the information about the differences between two groups of children and the impact of the experiment on their food choice. The results of the test, as well as the distinctions between children were observed and examined during the snack time, which demonstrated the overview of vegetables consumption. The outcomes of the experiment show that the research methodology was properly accomplished, and they also prove the connection between knowledge and actions. Furthermore, the difference in the results provides the posibility to observe the division of the children and the difference in their learning framework. However, the number of the participants can not depict the general view. The presented methodology can work better in combination with other studies of child's behaviour. The technology that was described in the research article fulfils the main purpose of a study. The results of the test showed the direct relation between learning and establishment of a new pattern of behaviour. As can be seen in the results, the psychologists used the methods that were the most suitable for the study, suchh as experiment, comparison and observation. The research team observed children during their mealtime at school, when the new information was still actual and fresh. Evidently, children were more attached to the interesting facts that contributed to their awareness of the hidden processes of their body and nourished the primary curiosity sense. The information about their food choices at home or during another mealtime is left uncovered. Thus, this aspect diminishes the objectiveness of the research. That is why, there is the need to collect further information about child's nutrition behind the school walls. For this purpose, the interview or questioning of parent s about the behaviour of their adolescence can be used. The ethical norms of the study were accomplished, and the rights of the selected children were not infringed. The entire experiment was conducted in school where teachers were responsible for the pupils. The process of implementation of variations into the curriculum was not fast that gives the opportunity to master a new knowledge. The observation was held secretly and without children's disturbance during their mealtime at school. However, the parents were aware and consented for the experiment. As the study was implemented in school, children were not taken from their safe and familiar surrounding, that gave the opportunity to evaluate their natural common reactions and behaviour. The storybooks were designed according to the participant's age, developmental level, and were simple, vivid and comprehensive. Moreover, children showed interest to such material that made it easy to memorize. In conclusion, it can be stated that the article depicts modern problem of nation's health and suggests the practical ways for its solution. The entire research process was conducted with the adherence to the ethical norms. The methods were chosen properly and contributed to the achievement of clear results of the experiment. The methodology that was used in the article is suitable for other behaviour related studies. Buy custom Social Psychology essay

Individual work - Essay Example Service delivery industries’ success is dependent on customer satisfaction. Lack of respect and ethical impairment is also visible among the company staff. For instance, the hotel’s manager insults the disabled guest of being unable to get to the dance floor instead strategizing on the required changes for improving on service delivery. One of the possible means of addressing these issues is the assessment of the service quality for improving service delivery, identifying customer problems and ensuring satisfaction. The manager should also identify and target the service needs of clients in order to satisfy them. The staff members should always be able to handle all guests regardless of their age and gender. The client should establish a service culture through staff training. The management should not be focused on the number of guests they receive, but the quality of service they offer. The guest’s expectations can only be achieved if the challenges facing the employees are addressed adequately. Listening to the employees enables the management to identify and curb the challenges facing them. The new employees should be tested to prove their ethical qualifications. This ensures that the services being offered to customers are of high quality. Guests should not be discriminated under any consideration regar dless of their physical strengths or weaknesses. The client should include regulations capable of accommodating the emerging services. The client should also ensure that all the services offered conform to current changes in technology. For instance, the disabled guest could have accessed the dance floor if the necessary technology was available. Lack of prior booking by the guest is an indication of existence of poor marketing and inefficient awareness. This implies that the client should invest in promoting marketing and customer awareness. Electrical conductor Essay Example for Free

Electrical conductor Essay This would increase the resistance of the wire. Another reason why the 60cm wire the highest resistance is that the ammeter and the voltmeter could have been read incorrectly. One reason why the 100cm wire and the 80cm wire had a smaller resistance than the 60cm wire is that the coils of wire could have touched. If this did happen the length of the wire would be shortened. The current would take the easiest route, this being the shorter one meaning the current wont have taken long to travel along the wire. The more coils that touched the more the length of wire would have been shortened. There would have been less collision between the atoms of the wire and the electrons of the current. Also as the current wont have had as far to travel the electrons wont have had to squeeze together for as long as predicted. If this did happen I predict using the graph that the 100cm wire was decreased to an estimated 58cm, and that the 80cm wire was reduced to an estimated 55cm. I cannot prove that this is true, it is just a prediction. The sketch below shows what the graph looked like: The sketch below shows how I expected the graph to look: Evaluation I think that the 60cm, 80cm and the 100cm wires were all anomalous results. I think that all of these results are anomalous because the 60cm wire had a higher resistance than the 80cm and the 100cm wires , however the 80cm and 100cm wires had a lower resistance than the 60cm wire. I cannot tell which of the above statement is correct. The results could be anomalous because the ammeter and voltmeters were read incorrectly. Making the 60cm wire have a higher resistance than it should have had, or resulting in the 80cm and 100cm wires have a lower resistance than it should have had. The coils of wire on the 80cm and the 100cm wire could have touched, resulting in the length of the wire being shortened. This therefore would reduce the resistance of the wire because the current would take the easies route, which is the shortest instead of taking the longest route around the coil. This means that there would have been less collisions between the atoms of the wire and the electrons of the current. Therefore the current would have flowed faster than expected. Also as the electrons wouldnt have had as far to travel as predicted they wouldnt have had to squeeze together for as long, meaning there would have been less collisions between electrons and other electrons. The 60cm wire could have already been used. This means that it could have still held an electrical charge which would increase the resistance of the wire. Also all of the ice in the boiling tube could have melted meaning that the temperature would have increased, resulting in the resistance being increased. If I could repeat the investigation again there would be a number of changes that I would make. One of these changes would to decrease the lengths of the wire. The 100cm wire was too long and it was difficult to wrap the wire around the boiling tube without any of the coils touching. Also I could have used a bigger boiling tube that had a wider diameter. It would be easier to wrap the wire around the boiling tube without any of the coils touching. Also if more repetitions were done there would be less chance of anomalous results appearing. If I did the experiment again I would change the ice after each experiment. Therefore none of the ice would melt completely and the temperature wouldnt rise I dont think that the voltmeter and ammeter were read incorrectly because there are no massive changes in the two reading on the table. If I was to repeat the investigation I would make sure that the wire was new wire that hadnt been previously used and that the wire came from the same strip. I wouldnt change my graph because I fell that it is clear and easy to see where each length of wire is. Bibliography Below is a list of web sites that I used to fin out background knowledge for the investigation: www. essaybank. co. uk www. goggle. com www. sciencefinder. org www. sciencenet. org Here is a list of books that I used in my investigation:Â   Coordinated Science Physics Also I use Encarta 99 to find out information for the investigation.

The Health Benefits of Vegetarianism Essay -- Health Nutrition Diet Ex

The Health Benefits of Vegetarianism Maintaining a well-balanced vegetarian diet is healthy and can be beneficial by reducing the risk of health diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases and obesity. Vegetarians are individuals who choose to abstain from eating foods derived from animals, such as meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products. This type of a diet is practiced for a variety of reasons, whether out of respect for animals and the environment, for the potentially healthier lifestyle, or simply out of distaste for or allergy to meat products. Practicing vegetarianism is no more difficult or complicated than following a regular meat-inclusive diet; eating a variety of soy, nut, or wheat based products can substitute for certain meat dishes and dairy products and provide the needed nutrients that those normally provides. Vegetarianism is a healthy choice; following a meat-restricting diet can lower cholesterol and fat intake, thus reducing the chances of developing heart diseases and obesity. Despite several misconceptions that claim vegetarianism is unbalanced and thus unhealthy, a vegetarian diet can still meet daily calorie and other nutrient requirements without including meat and dairy products. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, to maintain a healthy lifestyle a person should consume a balanced amount of fruits & vegetables, grains, meat, dairy products, and fats in accordance with the "Food Pyramid." The human body requires a minimum amount of various vitamins, minerals, and nutrients in order to perform properly and carry out bodily functions. Though removing beef, pork, poultry, and other animal-derived foods can leave a diet lacking in protein, calcium, iron, and vitamins... ...hy choice; there are numerous potential benefits that come with following a diet that abstains from meat and dairy products. Though following a vegetarian lifestyle with an unbalanced diet can be just as health hazardous as a meat-inclusive unbalanced diet, a vegetarian regime that maintains the recommended daily nutrients can be healthy and beneficial. A well-balanced vegetarian meal plan can help reduce the risks of heart diseases and obesity. Analysis of Brick Cleaner Essay

Aim: To find the percentage by mass of hydrochloric acid present in brick cleaner by doing an acid-base titration. Theory/Hypothesis: The main ingredient in brick cleaner is HCL and must be diluted and titrated with a base to be able to analyse it. It reacts with parts of the concrete which allows it to remove the concrete from the bricks. I think there will be around 30% of HCL in brick cleaner. Materials: * 5mL brick cleaner * 100mL, 0.1M standard sodium carbonate solution * 250ml de-ionised water * Methyl orange indicator * 250mL volumetric flask * 4x100mL conical flasks * Small funnel * 10mL measuring cylinder * 20mL pipette * Pipette filter * Dropping pipette * Burette and stand * White tile * Electronic balance * Safety glasses * Gloves Method: 1) A 250 mL volumetric flask was weighed with it’s mass recorded 2) A 10mL measuring cylinder was used to pour 5mL brick cleaner into the volumetric flask. The flask was stoppered straight after all the brick cleaner was in the flask. 3) The flask was then reweighed 4) De-ionised water was added until the flask was about half full. The flask was stoppered and shaken carefully upside down several times. 5) More water was added to the flask about a cm below the graduation line. A dropper was used to accurately drop the right amount of water to the flask so the bottom of the meniscus was on the graduation line. 6) A 20mL pipette was used to put 20mL of sodium carbonate solution into each of the four 100mL conical flask. 3 drops of methyl orange indicator was added to each. 7) The burette was filled with the solution of brick cleaner. 8) The sodium carbonate solution was titrated with the solution of brick cleaner until there was a clear permanent colour change. 9) Steps 7 and 8 were repeated until 3 concordant results were Results: Weight Volumetric flask 78.968g Brick cleaner 6.00g Titre 1 2 3 Initial vol 2.3 23.4 3.0 Final vol 23.4 44.5 24.0 Vol added 21.1 21.1 21.0 Calculations: On page attached. Discussion: The weight for the brick cleaner may not be 6.00g as the volumetric flask was not weighed again with the brick cleaner in it because that step was forgotten. So the result above was taken from another student that did the prac. This will affect the results as the mass of the brick cleaner is used to determine the percentage by mass of HCL in brick cleaner. All 3 titres show that they are only within 0.1 of each other. The hypothesis has been disproved because it was suggested the 30% of HCL would be in brick cleaner and there’s only 2.4% although it’s not certain that those steps were done correctly. There were no problems encountered during this prac. Focus Questions: 8)a) the manufacturer says that brick cleaner is made up of around 35% HCL, which is a massive difference to the answer that was got in this prac but again question 7 was not done correctly. b) differences in class results occur because not everybody would have done the exact volume of brick cleaner, sodium carbonate etc as each other therefore the difference in results obtained. 9) To correctly clean up a spill of 20mL brick cleaner you would mop it up immediately, washing it away with massive amounts of water 10)a) volumetric flask= once with water twice with brick cleaner b) Burette= once with water twice with diluted solution of brick cleaner c) pipette= once with water twice with diluted brick cleaner d) conical flask=once with water twice with sodium carbonate solution Conclusion: To conclude, there should be 35% HCL in brick cleaner although it was found that there was only 2.4%
